i dont have a title

so today I was doing some anthropological work in chilly Willi (willimantic) and myself and my partner for the project went to the soup kitchen.  we were studying women in poverty, so we sat and chatted with some women one at a time, just listening to their life stories.  One woman that i interviewed had such a heart breaking story. and i mean the interview was 57 min long so i cant go over everything we talked about, but she was telling us that just last night she slept in dunkin dounuts because she had no where else to go.  She told us about getting kicked out of places and feeling completely embarassed, she talked about going hungry and having to get used to that feeling and it just broke my heart.  I see homeless people every single day, every day and i havent once offered someone a dollar, or a meal.. at a restaurant or in my apartment… and i know people think that its crazy inviting someone from the “mean streets” of willimantic inside for dinner or something and it might be, or maybe that kindness could makes someones day, maybe they wont forget that kind act for the rest of their lives.  I dont know, but it just makes me think..what makes me any better than them.. my materials?  and its disgusting how we as a people are so wrapped up in ourselves that we cant stop prejudging people off the streets and simply show them love, or compassion, or kindness..myself included. The woman in particular who i was talking to was 26 and  was born a ward of the state, and after she turned 18 she was simply kicked out of the system.  One of the last questions i asked her was “If someone were to hand you an $100 bill right now what would you do with it” and she said go to the doctor, do some laundry, eat a good meal. simple things we take for granted every day.
